Women’s Tennis Earns All-Conference Honors
CHARLOTTE, NC- The Longwood women’s tennis team earned a pair of Big South All-Conference postseason awards, the conference announced on Thursday.
in doubles, Emma Nurgazieva other Karina Rizvanova were named All-Big South Second Team as a doubles pairing, a program first since joining the Big South.
In addition, Nina Hederich was named to the All-Academic Team.
The pairing of Nurgazieva and Rizvanova were potent for the Lancers all season in doubles. The senior and the freshman combined to go 8-7 overall and 4-1 in the Big South. They played 14 of their 15 doubles matches at No. 1 and went 8-6 in those matches.
Nurgazieva added nine singles wins and went 9-9, with the senior playing 17 of her 18 matches at No. 1 single. She won three matches in Big South play. Meanwhile, Rizvanova added six singles wins while playing primarily at No. 2 singles.
Hederich posted a 4.0 cumulative GPA to earn her All-Academic nod. The sophomore is majoring in environmental science and is a member of the Cormier Honors College at Longwood. She has already conducted independent research for the Longwood Environmental Observatory and has been selected for a prestigious internship with LSU and the United States Geological Services.
The Lancers wrapped up their season with a sweep of North Carolina Central and went 8-13 overall. The team features a wealth of youth, with six underclassmen on the eight-person roster.
